j.viewz - We Moved (feat. Benja)

You said "who do you make mistakes with?
what if I show you something not perfect?"
And for a moment I've never heard anything else, anything else
I forget to know how to dance

Drew you a thought on a napkin that night
Lines weren't right but you opened your eyes
We're sprinting into a risk and we'll madly get hurt
Glorious heartbreak I'm writing with you

We moved like we're not afraid

The moment I gave up on knowing exactly
If you're holding the part that was missing in
A house filled in with light
This place is more alive, with you

We moved like we're not afraid

Vocals: Benja Lyman, Jonathan Dagan
Drums: Yoni Halevy

j.viewz - #Almostforgot

cracked a window open
a giant city stormed inside
fragments of your poem, again

all I read is back of books
all I hear was ‘brought to you by
you're texting me your horoscope
I haven't written back, at all

#almostforgot the heart
#almostforgot the heart
#almostforgot the heart

tried to turn the music loud
to keep the words from being heard
“you've come this far, to realize
you're living on crumbs

all I read is back of books
all I hear was ‘brought to you by
you're texting me your horoscope
I haven't written back, at all

I was lost and wandering, I couldn’t see your face
that tangled branch inside me
grew and grew to a deeper place

and I couldn’t say
or wash it away
the things that i had hid inside
I tried and tried

you stood there
in the night air
a flicker in the fading lights
you lift the veil from

my eyes
are open
open wide
we’re strangers in the dark tonight
blind hope
we don’t ask why
from the dark into the light

I stood there naked and I felt
new in front of your heart
made clean by your raw fire I
took the darkness and tore apart

I can’t go
I won’t hide
I need to hear you say that-

something’s shone
in the light
look me in my eyes

Every part of you is pulling me so don't pull away
Don't pull away
Every part of you is pulling me so don't pull away
Don't pull away

I don't want to change today
Cause nothing stays anyway
I don't want to change today
that hit just decayed
I'll give you more, I'll give me more,
Give me more, give me more

Every part of you is pulling me so don't pull away
Don't pull away

It hit that you changed your ways
that look on your face
it hit that you changed our place
but give it some time
I'll give you more, I'll give you more,
Give me more, give me more

Every part of you is pulling me so don't pull away
Don't pull away
Every part of you is pulling me so don't pull away
Don't pull away

So come along
So come along

making up my mind
had a sound of a growing field
the quieter I got
the more I heard

all of the answers
(and the questions too)
are between the Atlantic
and your toes
and you
the sound of the mountains
the valleys
and the voicemail you left me
are one in the same
till they break apart again
I follow
I follow
I follow
I follow

in your arms I feel at peace
but you listen to something else
it’s my voice you fail to hear

stay, make me free
there are layers of endless behind this
stay, make me free
on the other side of this there’s silence

I follow

The DNA Project is completed.

This year has been the most exciting year of my life as a musician.
Thank you for joining me on this journey.

Your presence is felt every step of the way.

Now it's time to do some normal album stuff:
Finalize the mixes, master the whole thing, name the album, design the package, manufacture Vinyls, CDs, USB drives. set up the LIVE ACT and schedule some shows!

I will share this part of the process privately, to members only, right here.

Once the album is ready to be sent to you, this website will look much different;
It'll present a multidimensional album, the next j.viewz album.

You can Pre-Order the album here.

I hope you enjoyed this journey, thank you for believing in me and walking this path with me.
I can't wait to connect with you for real, hopefully in one of the next live shows.

Yours,
Jonathan

A few nights ago I sat with some friends, we talked about Freedom, how each person has a different definition to what’s FREE to them. I love Nina Simone’s simple definition: “Freedom is no fear.
A few days later I found myself dancing like an idiot in a Brooklyn bar. Luckily a sweet girl joined me and we were idiots together - it felt FREE. That night I wrote a single line to remember: “We moved like we’re not afraid
I recently bought a cheap Crumar synth, it has only 5 sounds, including its beautiful, warm, BRASS patch. Been messing around with this patch, then duplicated it with a piano and programed a rough beat. Feel free to download/use the beat (below)
Worked on the beat a little more. Found a sweet, cheap-sounding, marimba sample, brings a slow-dance-beach-party movement into the picture.
A couple of files from the beat are available for you to download below. cut it, pitch it, change it... or use as is.

Another interview I bumped into; at one point Feist is asked about choosing band members; “How do you choose who to make mistakes with? simply poetic. The sentence got stuck in my head - the option to show your mistakes, an imperfect, unedited version, can be liberating. The line "Who do you make mistakes with" found its way into the next song
Taken from the Feist Q TV Interview
During the Kickstarter campaign I had this idea, and the concept totally works musically.. to be continued!

Camera: Roy Rochlin
In a recent trip to France I played with some vocal melodies on top of that Slow-Dance beat.
The day ended with a nice first verse and a potential chorus

Today we let go of a Snare we loved (loved but not enough..,)
Feel free to download the sample I recorded below and use it!
Drums day with Yoni Halevy. Recorded with one mic only, and removed the Bassdrum altogether. On the right you can hear the drums inside the overall beat. Feel free to download and use the original recording!
UPDATE: Just got another version from the genius Tchad Blake - available below (thanks Tchad!)

These are the drum channels in this song...
We went up to Dobbs Ferry to collect some sounds for the bridge of the song

Camera: Roy Rochlin
Edit: Daphni Leef & Jonathan Dagan
Decided not to leave Dobbs Ferry till I had the 2nd verse written. First time that I get to look at the different steps in the writing process myself... Big thanks to Roy Rochlin for joining the trip and documenting!

Camera: Roy Rochlin Edit: Daphni Leef
Big thanks to Maayan Paldi and her gang for sending their beach party sounds! Placed it way back in the mix, but it still has a great impact on the feel of the 'beachy' parts in the song
A collection of some of the technical processes in the studio + my own vocal parts in the song.
You can download & use the processed Nuts recording - below (one of my favorite home made samples!)

Mastering day for We Moved! Big thanks Brian Lucey for taking the time to talk about the process.

Recorded an explosive cabbage, ran through some pedals and added to the beat. You can download and use it - below (Ideal for those crunchy EDM snare snaps)
Working mostly nights and very early mornings on this song. "Almost forgot the heart" is the line I keep singing these days, after working on promoting, developing, technologing, facebooking for so long. good to be back
Vocal & Strings melody idea I just had (sorry for the quality, recorded on the go...)
Recording Silence, making a Bass Drum
The dust begins to settle.

The noise is over. Spent a few days in nature
 I think I have a melody
I know what the song is about, not sure how to deliver it yet
Recorded these Wind Chimes, ran them through an old compressor, added the Cabbage recording and started this beat!
You can Download & Use my recording, enjoy!
Recorded a silly note to myself, but looks like a part of it is becoming the actual chorus
Edit: Daphni Leef Diner cam: Roy Rochlin Post: Tomer Rabinowitz
Walking around the subways singing the note from yesterday, think I found the chorus!
Kelli Scarr dropped by for a quick session. Loving her voice on this!
Snippets from two significant studio sessions...
I took the heartbeats of Kickstarter supporters and made an instrumental edit of #Almostforgot using their hearts as a click-track. BIG THANKS to everyone who donated their heart <3
 Heart Detection: David Baet-Halahchmi
Obsessed with the synth sound at the beginning of this Karate Kid song. Sampled it and started this beat
I sent this rough idea to Keegan DeWitt of Wild Cub. A great voice for this Blade-Runner type vision.
Also - the VINYL HISS I'm using on many j.viewz songs is available for you to download & use. Enjoy!

About the project
j.viewz
Brooklyn, NY
The making of an album is a beautiful process that most people don’t get to experience, says j.viewz. “The DNA Project was born out of a desire to break down the elements that the songs are made of, and to connect with my audience during this process. I'm intrigued by the option to share the experience of making my next album in real-time, and also to open the source of my songs and let other creators use the elements that I collect along the way. There are so many dimensions to music beyond the final product, I hope that this project will help unfold them.
The DNA Project is a music experiment by Brooklyn-based producer and songwriter j.viewz, that brings the power of community to the album-making experience. The DNA website gives fans access to the different components that form the songs, such as the sounds, the stories, and the people involved in the upcoming j.viewz album.

The Timeline view will be the home for every update throughout the project, even before the update becomes part of a song. Gradually, as the songs begin to form, they will start to appear as threads across the timeline, with each song-thread linking its corresponding updates. Clicking the songs will open the Tracks view, which will present the step-by-step evolution of every song and the progression of the entire album.

Users can also access the DNA view for freeform exploration of the elements inside the songs. Some posts will allow users to download sounds and use them in their own songs, or even to build upon the files and upload their work back to the website, making it available to j.viewz or other users. This dialog can form a continuos 'remix' of content and form 'branches' on a creative tree. The project is planned to run for 10 months with a new song released approximately once a month.

j.viewz is embarking on the artistic journey with award-winning digital agency Hello Monday.

Together they will work toward redefining the way music is created in the digital space.
